The National University Bulldogs captures the Men’s Senior Basketball Championship of Filoil Flying V Tournament and it is their first pre-season championship crown.
NU Bulldogs defeated DLSU Green Archers with a score of 64-54 as they sweep all their games in this tournament having a clean slate of 11-0 to win it all the way to the championship.
“I know this is a first for us, I’m very happy, I’m happy personally for the school, it’s the preseason, for now we just to celebrate it”, said NU Head Coach Eric Altamirano. “It’s a big victory for the school”.
NU Bulldogs’ star Bobby Ray Parks led the game with 19 points including the dagger 3-pointer to end the third quarter. He is also the tournament’s MVP this season.
Emmanuel Mbe also helped the NU Bulldogs with a double-double performance, with 13 points and 15 rebounds and was also named the Most Defensive Player before the game starts.
DLSU Revilla helped the Green Archers with a back-to-back three pointers in the 3rd quarter and some good plays by Archers Javellonar, Alolino and Vosotros and it wasn’t enough to beat the spark from Bobby Ray Parks and the outstanding zone defense of the Bulldogs.
This NU Bulldogs really look promising as they have a good basketball program with the help of SM Group of Companies and veteran coach Eric Altamirano. They built a fantastic team making Parks and Mbe as their core players and adding some good role players. For the first time in so many years, I am excited for this coming Season 75 of UAAP because of this NU Basketball Team. Ateneo Blue Eagles will have a good challenger in this season and lets see if NU can contain the powerhouse team of the Blue Eagles.
